# Getting started with Date, DateTime, and Math logic block actions?

For Date Decomposition, do you need to provide all the output variables or only the ones you need?

For example I am decomposing a datetime field to obtain just the date. I had originally set up variables for date, time and timezone, as the action shows all fields with an \*. For timezone, I created a text variable but it won’t allow selection of the variable. So can I just put the output variable for date and leave the others empty on the action?

One of our software engineers took a look at the code. Here was his answer -  
It appears we just need one of the three specified. The only invalid configuration is having none specified.

He said it has been challenging to convey that in the UI. I’ll go ahead and update documentation with a note about that!
