Difference in Procurement Orders

What is the difference between a requisition and a purchase order?

Essentially, a purchase requisition is a request for approval to buy something, and a purchase order is the actual order placed with the supplier.

Requisitions are designed for anyone in a company to request an item that might be needed for their department. Procurement specialists review the requisitions and determine if they are actually necessary to purchase or not. If they are necessary, the procurement department will create a purchase order with a known supplier to place the order for the good.
