Project Builder logic block can't execute against live database, expected behavior or bug?

I’m using Project Builder to create an application that queries data from an existing table (included in my project) and summarizes the results by predefined buckets. The summarized output is meant to feed a separate application where I display it as a bar chart.

The problem: no data is being retrieved when the query/logic block runs, even though I can manually view and edit the same underlying data through the UI without any issue.

When I asked Project Builder directly why this might be happening, it gave the following explanation:

  1. No Runtime Access — I’m a code/logic designer, not a runtime engine. I can CREATE logic blocks, but I cannot EXECUTE them against your database. That requires a live connection to your database server, which I don’t have.
  2. No Database Connection — I have no credentials, no connection string, and no API gateway to your database. Only your application server has that access.
  3. No Authentication — Even if I had a connection, I’d need your platform credentials and authorization tokens. I don’t have those, and you shouldn’t share them.

Is this expected behavior or is this a bug/gap in how Project Builder connects generated logic to the runtime? Any pointers on the right way to get a logic block or query actually executing against the table would be appreciated.
