Can you base a new Cube Summary Table on an existing one?

Is there currently a way to base a new Cube Summary Table (CST) on an existing one? A while back, in one or more calls with NW, we were told to consider reducing the number of CSTs based on table GeneralLedgerDetail by creating new CSTs that used the output of an existing CST as its data source. NW mentioned that it would be more efficient to do it this way. Of course, this would require properly planning the dimensions of the CST originally based on GeneralLedgerDetail, which may also need to be updated over time.

However, after attempting to create a CST based on an existing one, the Cube Summary Table app did not allow for selecting the “…Data” Summar table of the other CST as the Data Source of the new CST. Inspecting the STFCubeDataSources subtable, there is a filtered table lookup that limits cube data sources to Main, Header and Detail tables, i.e. one cannot currently base a new CST on an existing Summary table.

So it seems there is no way to currently do this? Is there perhaps another way of achieving the same result? Our concern is that we currently have a growing amount of Cube Summary Tables over GeneralLedgerDetail and would like to keep these to a minimum as far as possible.

Previous discussions about having Cube Summary Tables feed other Cube Summary Tables should be revisited. It wasn’t the correct approach to have been recommended at the time.

Can you please book a session on my calendar to discuss what you’re trying to do in more detail so we can think about and discuss alternative solutions?
