Local/network system printer queues (Windows Spooler or Linux CUPS managed) can be added to the Enterprise Printing Platforms configured printers, as LOCAL printer types. The LOCAL profiles are mapped to system queues available to the machine where the selected EPP Site/Bridge service resides.
EPP LOCAL printers are not monitored in Printer and Job Monitor page; however, print Jobs are still logged and can be viewed from the Printer and Job Monitor page, and reprinted from the Print > Reprint page. Successful EPP print jobs to LOCAL printer profiles will always appear with a ‘Completed with Warnings’* status, simply because EPP gets no confirmation from the spooling service, if a print was successful.
Using local system print queue (Windows):
-
From the server running EPP, open ‘Control Panel > Devices and Printers’
- This can be the core server for ‘defaultSite’ config OR a machine running an EPP remote Site/Bridge installation
-
Create printer(s)
- Windows printer profile should be using ‘Generic / Text Only’ drivers
-
Restart the DSIPrintBridge service
-
From the EPP portal, navigate to ‘Admin > Printer Admin > Setup’
-
Select ‘+ Add’ to start a new EPP printer profile
-
Change ‘Connection Type’ to “Local”
-
Change the ‘System Printer’ to the desired Windows system printer
-
Select a ‘Location’ option

Save
Using Windows print queues hosted by another server/computer:
-
Ensure EPP DSIPrintBridge/DSIRemote services are using a domain account (not Local System)
-
Remote machine(s) have printer share set to allow the domain account the DSIPrintBridge/DSIRemote services run on.
- Windows printer profile should be using ‘Generic / Text Only’ drivers
-
Add shared printer(s) to the Windows Server’s Devices and Printers list (that EPP is installed to)
-
Restart the DSIPrintBridge service
-
From the EPP portal, navigate to ‘Admin > Printer Admin > Setup’
-
Select ‘+ Add’ to start a new EPP printer profile

From the server running EPP, open the CUPS manager.
-
Usually running on port 631. e.g. http://127.0.0.1:631
-
This can be the core server for ‘defaultSite’ config OR a machine running an EPP remote Site/Bridge installation
-
-
Create printer(s)
- Linux printer profiles should be using ‘RAW’ drivers

Restart the DSIPrintBridge/DSIRemote daemon

Troubleshooting Missing Printer Options
Troubleshooting issues with LOCAL printers not showing up in ‘System Printer’ drop-down; during EPP Printer setup
-
Was the correct ‘Site’ option associated with the ‘System Printer’ selected?
-
Is the system print spooler enabled or running?
-
Does the DSIPrintBridge/DSIRemote services user account have permission to use the system printer?
-
Try restarting the associated EPP Site/Bridge service.
* EPP 10.0.0.x installs store ‘Completed with Warnings’ print jobs in the “Error” bucket, of the Printer and Job Monitor page.
* EPP 10.0.1.0 introduced a “Warnings” bucket, for storing unconfirmed print jobs that did not error, in the Printer and Job Monitor page.
