The MEP Cloud solution leverages a Cloud Connect Server or Gateway Server to interconnect between the MEP Public Cloud and Customer’s On-Premises ERP Solutions. In general if MEP Public Cloud is integrating to an ERP solution which is not Cloud-Native, a Gateway Server will need to be used to mitigate the public / private network communication that is necessary to submit and execute transactions against Customers On-Premises ERP Solution.
Common ERP Solutions where a Gateway Server is deployed:
- JDE EnterpriseOne (32-bit or 64-bit Architecture)
- SAP ECC 6.0
- Oracle EBS
- Infor Related Solutions
We have compiled a list of reasons why the Gateway Service may need to be restarted to ensure the MEP Cloud Solution is performing as expected. Please follow these guidelines for when a Gateway Service restart is required. This is not the same as requiring a Gateway Server Restart and most of the time this is an activity which takes just a few minutes to complete and can be scripted in a Windows environment if desired.
Gateway Service Restart Guidelines:
-
SSL Certificate updates
- There is an SSL Certificate used by the Gateway Service that needs to be maintained. If you are using a Certificate Authority(CA) issued certificate which many of our customers use vs a Self-Signed certificate, the CA certificates usually have a max of 3 year lifespan but it could be a 1 year or two year certificate. When a change to that certificate is made it is important to rotate the SSL certificate on the Windows Operating System and restart the Gateway Service.
-
Network Modification Considerations
- If the Public DNS entry needs to change for the Gateway Server, a restart of the Gateway Service is required.
-
ERP Application Server restart
- If the ERP Application server which MEP Cloud is integrated needs to be restarted, then the Gateway Service should also be restarted.
-
ERP Solution Database restart
- If the MEP Cloud completes validation requests against an ERP hosted database, then the Gateway Service should also be restarted.
-
MEP Cloud Platform Update
- There are 2 updates to the MEP Cloud Platform during the year which usually fall in the May / November timeframe. When these types of updates occur, it is common to restart the Gateway Service or you may need to update the Gateway Service and restart. The MEP Cloud notifications which Customer designated resources receive, will alert Customers if there is a need to update the Gateway Service or just restart it or you may not have to do anything.
It is common for Customers to perform maintenance on their On-Premises ERP Solutions which take the system offline for a period of time. If that type of maintenance occurs, the Gateway Service should be incorporated into those maintenance activities.
