Can anybody point me to the differences between KBOM and BOM?

Are you talking about the options from the menu?
If so, then the difference between the records you see is the Document Group they are created with. Kit Bill Of Materials are created with a Document Group = Kit, and Bill Of Materials are created with a Document Group = Manufacturing.
