How can I release customer backorders with newly available inventory?

@abbey.brandt which document type are you using? Inventory management can be applied across a few different ones including Sales Orders, Transfer Orders and Work Orders.

My best guess since you referred to customer backorders is you are using Sales Orders.

Sales Order lines that contain backordered quantity can be released through a couple different options.

Most commonly, an Inventory manager will use the Backorders Release application from the menu to decide what order to prioritize inventory release. This could be by a few different options. By Order, Customer, Item, Job or even Lot for a specific Company and Organizational Unit.

Sales Orders individually give a Sales Rep a couple options as well for re-evaluating available inventory for their order. They are the following

  • Header Row Action “Check Availability”. This will re-calculate availability for ALL stock lines on the individual order. This will include the newly received inventory.
  • Detail Row Action “Check Availability”. This will provide the same experience but for just the individual line
  • Line modification. Each Sales Order Detail has trigger fields to recalculate availablity due to their potential impact on quantities or fulfillment times. Modifying Requested Quantity, Scheduled Pick Date, Requested Date, Line Type, Unit of Measure or Item will also queue an availability check.

There are some other work arounds such as line splitting and using reservations but the above are the most common. If you’re interested in the other options, let me know.
